Your ability to make money betting on horse races has a lot to do with your temperament. Most people are not suited to watching the tote board for twenty-five minutes between races, looking for a betting anomaly that may point to a long shot winner. I understand this, and in view of that, I want to bring your attention to trainer stats.

This is a list of some of the trainers who have won races this year with first time starters.  It is incomplete, but demonstrates that some trainers are capable of prepping horses for an all-out effort first time out, and unless the horses paid even money or less, a solid profit was had by all who wagered on these first time starters.
