Preakness Best Raw Times

Best-Raw-TimesThe betting public generally follows the hype surrounding the Preakness, and because of this, Orb will likely leave the gate as an odds-on favorite.  While he may very well win the race this afternoon, from a betting standpoint, wagering on Orb to Win will be the worst bet available.

So, which horse(s) should you wager on? Here are my observations:

Everyone wants to see another triple crown winner, and Orb is on a winning streak. If you are an exotics player, you have to include him, but to place a Win bet on him is ridiculous.

I am not sure why Goldencents turned in such a disappointing race in the Derby, but he should be on or near the lead throughout. He should not be overlooked if the price is right.

Titletown Five out finished Orb at seven furlongs last August, but Orb has improved dramatically while this horse has not.

Departing ran two consecutive 1 1/8 mile races in identical times, one of them the Illinois Derby in his last start. He arguably has a better closing kick than Orb and should be a nice price.

Mylute needs to be closer to the pace than last time out if he is to win this.

His raw race times and disappointing finish last out make Oxbow difficult to play.

Will Take Charge has not left me with the impression a win is imminent here.

Govenor Charlie won the Sunland Derby with ease, has the best raw time at 1 1/8 miles and breezed 6 furlongs in 1:10.80 earlier this week. He will likely go to post at high odds, and will definitely get some betting action from me.

I doubt today will be a lucky day for Itsmyluckyday.
